Property

Aluminum Chlorohydrate (ACH) is an inorganic polymer with higher basicity than Polyaluminum Chloride (PAC). It is polymerized by hydroxyl bridging and contains the maximum number of hydroxyl groups in its molecular structure.

Liquid ACH has an alumina content of over 23%; solid ACH ranges from 46% to 50%. It features strong bridging and adsorption capacity, dissolves easily in water. Its hydrolysis involves electrochemical reaction, coagulation, adsorption and precipitation.

Differences between ACH and PAC

Aluminum Chlorohydrate (ACH), also called Hydroxy Aluminum Chloride. It has a basicity higher than PAC, second only to aluminum hydroxide. It is white powder with colorless transparent solution, containing five hydroxyl groups per molecule.Liquid ACH: ≥23% alumina; solid ACH: 46%–51%. It has excellent bridging adsorption and is not easy to deliquesce.

Polyaluminum Chloride (PAC) has an indefinite molecular weight, appearing as off-white to yellow powder with yellow translucent solution.Liquid PAC: alumina below 12%; solid PAC: only 27%–32%. It has weaker bridging adsorption, easy to dissolve and highly deliquescent.

Both undergo hydrolysis with electrochemical, coagulation, adsorption and precipitation processes.

Applications

Personal care: Used as antiperspirant, deodorant and astringent.

Water treatment: As flocculant for drinking water and printing & dyeing wastewater; removes iron, fluoride, cadmium and radioactive pollutants, suitable for water with pH7.5.

Advantages

Better turbidity and color removal

Higher TOC removal efficiency

Lower filtered turbidity and longer filtration cycle

Sediment volume reduced by over 50%

Simplified operation, no extra pH adjustment or secondary polyelectrolyte needed

Lower overall treatment cost
